In no particular order, here are the 10 most beautiful app UI of the month.

1. Vrse by Vrse Inc

Virtual reality or VR – there’s so much hype about it. Yet it’s still not very accessible to the mass consumer. At times, I wish I could VR many aspects of my life. From learning to watching movies to gaming. Thankfully, Vrse wants to take us to a VR-infused world with their app that brings you an expanding universe of VR experiences, with or without Cardboard. For now, these experiences come in the form of short movies or film clips. Besides the amazing experience and beautiful app UI, VR apps and tech are exciting for me as the future promises a whole new way of telling stories.

2. Wild Weather by Mark Hendriks and Studio Brun

Weather apps seem to be a popular medium for designers and makers to unleash their creative potential. Wild Weather is an app that offers you information on the weather like never before. Instead of squiggly lines and confusing numbers, the forecast is presented to the user via lovely hand-drawn illustrations featuring colourful landscape, adorable animals and quirky animations. Wild Weather is indeed a great example of beautiful app UI.

3. Airmail by Bloop

Anyone who has ever sent me an email would know that I’m a big fan of Airmail. To me, none of the other email client apps is as comprehensive in about every way as Airmail is. So my excitement level was brought up a couple of notches when they finally released the Airmail app for iOS. It’s the premium email app you’d expect it to be. From the beautiful app UI to the truly unified experience, Airmail is the app for anyone anxious to tackle their inbox in style and without issues.

4. Day One 2 by Bloom Built

Keeping a journal is one of those habits that could be dying. Personally, I used to fill books with opinions and observations that could only have been perceived from a young child. Nowadays, I’m lucky to jot down random thoughts in the little notebook I carry with me. Keeping a journal is considered a healthy habit and beneficial for your creative potential. The new version of the Day One is well-designed to inspire you to write more. The beautiful app UI is simple and elegant but also comes with a bunch of features to include digital media and cloud-based sync.

5. Guides by Lonely Planet

Lonely Planet’s guide books: the must-have of every tour-avoiding traveler who prefers to do it their way. However, in today’s digital world, lugging a thick book around when traveling is considered carrying deadweight. Lonely Planet isn’t about to be forsaken though. Their new app is a lightweight version of their traditional guide books, offering a beautiful app UI with curated city guides and tips.

6. CHOMP by Christoph Niemann

Christoph Niemann has to be my favourite designer/illustrator/overall creative guy. I’m a big fan since I started following his Abstract City blog (now known as Abstract Sunday) on the New York Times. More inspiring is Niemann’s ability to fuse various art forms and materials into creative works that speak to the audience. So it didn’t come as a surprise to me when he started to create mobile apps for kids. His latest creation is CHOMP, a wonderful product that took four years in the making. It is an app that combines gorgeous hand-crafted illustrations, animation and interaction with live video. It was developed by Jon Huang and published by Fox and Sheep. The beautiful app UI is only slightly shadowed by the great fun the app is for kids and adults alike.

7. Totus by Totus Apps

The mere mention of laundry day usually brings about sighs and groans. It’s one of those necessary yet not very satisfying responsibilities of adulthood. Totus proposes to take that dull chore from your hands and take care of your laundry for you. All of it, from shirts to dry-clean only to bedspread. The beautiful app UI is simple that makes the order process seem like a breeze.

8. Ultimate Briefcase by Nitrome

At first, I was reluctant to include Ultimate Briefcase in a list of beautiful app UI. But eventually, the retro-style interface and gameplay that reminds me of the early Nintendo days got to me. And boy, am I hooked to this game! Avoiding falling bombs that explode upon contact with the ground along with crazy laser beams gets only more adrenaline pumping. Different levels, different scenes, new characters, all of which are well illustrated and appeals to the nostalgia within.

9. Laundry Day by Jan Plesek

Laundry day accidents resultant of pure carelessness are a real bother. If you’re like me, you once had the unfortunate experience of tossing in a brand new sweater only to retrieve a mini-me version of it later. Well, say goodbye to shrunken sweaters. Laundry Day is a gorgeous app that tells you how to do your laundry simply by scanning the tags. No more trying to remember what all those symbols mean. The beautiful app UI of Laundry Day is also another good reason to get the app. Nice soft colors combined with adorable illustrations – it might bring the joy back into laundry day.

10. Subspotting by OFFC

Getting cell service can be a pain in the neck, especially when you’re underground in New York City. Fortunately, the OFFC has got the New Yorkers covered. Subspotting visually maps out information on available cell phone service and WiFi signals along all the lines, stations and tracks of the NYC Subway. The beautiful app UI allows for quick and easy understanding of the data displayed in a ‘timeline’ style. I wish I had such a great app for my city.

Tune in next month for more inspiring beautiful app UI! Remember, if you would like to showcase your gorgeous mobile app, feel free to reach out @protoio.
