Mouse events?!?! Hello tutorials and app guides!

October 18, 2012

You may wonder why you can now see ‘mouse over’ and ‘mouse out’ trigger events in interactions! Why would someone need mouse events in mobile prototyping? Well, this feature came after popular demand by many of our users. Read on and you will understand why.

It was indeed a nice surprise when we realized the power that mouse events give to Proto.io as a platform! Yes, Proto.io is normally used for mobile prototyping. However, many of you would like to use it to demo your apps on their app microsites or even create tutorials and user guides for your apps. Mouse events come to add a tremendous benefit to this requirement!

Granted, mobile apps (and software in general) should have no need for tutorials or guides if they are well designed. Regardless, even if an app or website is ‘perfectly designed’, there are cases where certain functionality might not be obvious to some users. Furthermore, some apps, like medical, engineering, and in general large complex-UI apps could definitely use the aid of tutorials.

Now, with mouse events added, your can easily create an app demo, tutorial or guide and embed it to your website. The example below may not be the best way to demonstrate this as Calculators are considered ‘self-explanatory’. However, it demonstrates how to create a simple guide for your app!

To post something like this on your website, all you need to do is publish your prototype for everyone and use the iframe code available with export to embed it. You can use any device skin or border of your preference but you can also use the following code to reproduce the above:

Enjoy!
